ECLECTUS
(530) 644-0704
One of the first babies I fed were Eclectus. Such
sweet babies. They have an odor all of their own. What caught
my attention with these
amazing birds was the brilliant florescent colors especially with the
males. It was thought for years in the country that they came from that
these were 2 different kinds of parrots. These are one of the easiest
birds to sex. Females are the vibrant red/purple and the males are the
florescent green. Males have a beautiful red underneath their wings.
There are several kinds of Eclectus. There are Vosmarie, Solomon,
Red-Sided and the Grand. All are excellent pets.
These birds are amazing. Like macaws, they'll learn to utter
their first words before they're even weaned. They have an unusual voice
all their
own. Sort of high pitched, so interesting to listen to.
Females are the dominant and aggressive of the species. She's
boss, and what she says or does, goes. Males seem to make a more
sweeter pet
than females.
With a length of 14 inches, they are a medium size parrot.
They're quite hardy birds. Their originated in the Moluccas, Ceram,
Ambon, Sumbaa,
Solomon Islands. They're excellent talkers and will start at an
early age. We had some babies start at 4 months talking!
